# 1 My Photo Journeys

Proverb 16:9. In his heart, a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. John seen in India.

" Satisfaction= Passion - Hardship ". Without passion, there is no drive to go to those remote places to capture the wonderful images of nature in the wild. It is hard work. Having to carry heavy equipment, walking miles in the forest, crossing rivers and waiting for the right moments.  Someone once asked me why take all that trouble, why not just go to the zoo ?

My photo journeys is a collection of photos taken during my journeys to various places. I enjoyed them all. Here I want to share with you those unforgettable moments in the wild. Hardship is nothing when you have passion.

#2 Rainforest of SE Asia

The rainforest is about 150 million old. It is one of the most bizarre places on earth that you can still visit. Here is a view above Sarawak major river system near Kuching.

At first, everything seems green and dense ,there is nothing to see like what you would expect in the open savanna. Nothing is obvious, you have to search for it. As you learn  and search more , you will  discover wonderful biodiversity in the tropical rainforest.

Sadly, with heavy logging, many of the vast forests have disappeared. Great areas have also been converted to farm land. Here  are images of the pristine rainforest for you to enjoy.

#3 India Land Of Tiger

The Royal Bengal tiger is the essence of Indian wildlife that once roamed in large numbers all over Asia .  Some 3750 Royal Bengal tigers spread across various sanctuaries and national parks in India accounting almost for two-third of the world’s tiger population.

Bandhavgarh and Kanha National Parks are two of the most concentrated tiger populations in the world. We visited both parks in March, just at the tail-end of winter. We were rewarded not only by the exciting sighting of tigers but, the elusive leopard, the jackals, the wild dogs and a whole array of colorful display of birds in the wild.

# 4 Wildlife Southern      India

The southern Indian wildlife reserves of Bandipur, Kabini, Mudumalai and Anamalai  are not very far away from the major cities of Bangalore and Chennai.  Bandiphur is know as the best place to see Asian Elephant.

Our travel to Southern India  was truly an incredible, fascinating, and fulfilling experience from the wildlife, bird life to  the friendly and hospitable people that we met. The colorful culture, the friendly people and the abundance of wildlife encounters were truly incomparable to anywhere within 4 hours of flight from Singapore. Bangalor to Chennai,(Nagahore,Bandiphur,
Mudumalai,Anamalai )

#5 Birding Sulawesi

The Red- Knobbed Hornbill of  Sulawesi is one of the endemic birds that any visitor will get a chance to see. The island of  Sulawesi in Indonesia has more 30 % of  unique wildlife note seen anywhere else in the world. I spent almost 3 weeks in North and South Sulawesi.

We visited the northern part of the island near the town of Manado and the southern island of Boton. The endemic Red-knobbed Hornbill was photographed near Tangkoko / Nusadua Nature Reserve.  One of the two more spectacular species that can be found in Sulawesi.  One of the largest of the 53 species in the world. The island of Sulawesi in Indonesia is a fascinating place to explore the wildlife of the Indonesian archipelago.

#6 Bird Watch Sarawak

Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia. It is situated in the world's third largest island Borneo. We spent 2 weeks from Mulu National Park up north , stopping in Niah Cave, Lambir, Simalajau, Bako and finally ending our trip in Gunung Gading National Park at the southern tip of  Sarawak.
The beautiful sunset at the Bako National Park over looking the Sentobong Island is one of the amazing moments as you enjoy the beautiful scenery from the platform trail above the tide ,at the same time watching the Proboscis monkeys feeding on the nearby mangrove tree. Bako is one of the best places in the island of Borneo to approach will Proboscis monkeys.

# 7. Uniquely  Singapore

Singapore is the size of Rhode Island in USA. Trendy yet rooted to its rich past, Singapore is a multi racial society with vibrant mix of Chinese, Indian, Malay and Eurasian

Join us in the photography walk in Singapore. Walking photo tour are increasingly more popular with the benefit of learning various photography skills as well as enjoying the local amenities in Little India and Clarke Quay Singapore. Sip your tea or coffee as we go through some our lesson. Simple but effective & unique way to learn photography in Singapore

#8 Fraser's Hill - Bird Watching at the Hill Station  Black-Browed
It was an 8 hour drive from Singapore to Fraser's Hill, Malaysia with 2 rest stops in between and sandwich lunch in the car while driving 500 KM up north. We left Singapore at 9:30 am and arrived the GAP (820 m ) just before 5:00 pm.

Bird photography is one of the most challenging field in nature photography. You need the right equipment and  be in the right place at the right time. Your knowledge of  bird behavior will help you locate and find the birds. Lastly, you need some luck and lots of patience.

#9 Nature in Midwestern America
I spent 3 weeks in the Chicago and Madison Wisconsin area this summer. I had the chance to explore the native prairie ( how native plants used to grow in the area before any form of urbanization and introduction of  other plants into the area).
The  native plants bring back wildlife .

Clear blue sky and great summer weather is a great time to explore the American prairie. Here a collection of native American plants.

The Bajau Tribe and Regatta Lepa in Semporna Sabah Malaysian Borneo

The Bajau- Sea Gypsies Bajaus are a colorful, festive and musical people. Photographing People and culture of Asia during the Regatta Lepa Festival in Semporna, Sabah.

The Bajau have been a nomadic, seafaring people for most of their history. Many  still practice that same lifestyle to this day, which explains why they are still commonly called "sea gypsies." They chart particularly the waters of the Sulu Sea, off the southwestern coast of the Philippines, and the various seas that surround the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. They come ashore only to bury the deceased and to live temporarily while making new boats called the " Lepa ". I had the chance to visit Semporna in the eastern town of Sabah (Malaysian Borneo) for the Regatta Lepa Festival in April 2008. More stories about the Bajaus and other tribes in the May's issue of Asian Geographic Magazine.
